Today we hung the girls Advent Calendar all ready for the start of December. A few weeks ago I started thinking of ideas for our Advent Calendar. I wanted to create something that we could use again in years to come.
I finally settled on the idea of little bags that we can hang and fill with little treats. I brought 24 miniature drawstring bags. Then using my heat press and some transfer paper I printed numbers 1 – 24 on them.
I then painted some bog standard wooden pegs red. I just happened to have a can of Red Annie Sloan paint out that we are using for another project however any red paint would have done the trick.
Originally I had the idea of using fairy lights and making a pom pom garland but then I discovered the beauty of origami fairy lights. They look so effective. I first came across the idea of the origami fairy lights via origami est. She runs some great looking pop up cafe courses where you can make your own. However I couldn’t make that date so I decided to try and make my own using an Origami Book I have. There are loads of amazing tutorials online which will show you how to make the basic water bomb shape. I think the ones made by Origami Est are amazing as they are triangular rather than square….(way too advanced for me)
So using some fancy Indian wrapping paper I found in Hobby Craft I made a string of origami fairy lights with some battery operated LED lights.
I am really pleased with the end result. Now to fill it before the morning. You can check out my ideas for Advent fillers here.
